On September 25, MOFCOM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy and the China-Italy Entrepreneur Committee co-hosted the China-Italy Virtual SME Forum to facilitate post-COVID trade and economic exchanges and cooperation between China and Italy and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Yu Jianhua, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, and Manlio Di Stefano, Undersecretary of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony via video link.
Yu Jianhua said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Italy. By reaching out helping hands to each other in fighting COVID-19, people from both sides have written a splendid, special chapter in China-Italy friendship. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Conte talked over the phone and committed to jointly build a “Silk Road for health”, which charted the course for China-Italy trade and economic cooperation at present and in the future. Yu Jianhua put forward three suggestions to entrepreneurs from both sides: First, seizing the new opportunities in China's reform and opening up, and getting fully involved in the new, dual-circulation development paradigm, ensuring the stability and smooth, efficient functioning of industrial and supply chains so as to achieve mutually-beneficial and win-win results. Second, seizing new opportunities presented by China’s innovative development to jointly enhance industrial modernization in the two countries. Third, seizing the new opportunities brought by China-EU strategic cooperation to make China-Italy cooperation a frontrunner in China-EU cooperation.
China-Italy Entrepreneur Committee, founded in June 2014, contributes to bilateral trade and economic cooperation as a second track. It has held the China-Italy Virtual SME Forum for three years in a row, matching over 150 SMEs in food process facilities, auto and parts, pharmaceuticals, furniture, etc.
